What is Driver CPC Module 2?

Driver CPC Module 2 is a part of the initial driver CPC certification process which is required for professional LGV/HGV drivers. The initial Driver CPC which stands for Driver Certificate of Professional Competence is a mandatory qualification for all LGV/HGV Drivers. Before you can drive professionally, you must pass the initial Driver CPC qualification. Cpc module 2 is the 2nd part of the initial Driver CPC qualification, out of four Modules.

What is included in Driver CPC Module 2?

Module 2 of the Driver CPC, known as the Case Study Theory Test.

The CPC Module 2 is a computer-based test. It is made up of 7 case studies.

These case studies are basically short stories based on real life situations that more likely happen in ones working life as a HGV/LGV driver.

For each of the seven case studies the driver is asked between six and eight multiple choice questions.

What is the total duration of the CPC module 2 test?

The total duration of the CPC Module 2 test is 1 hour and 15 minutes.

What is the pass mark of CPC Module 2?

The total mark is 50 and you need to secure a minimum of 80% i.e 40 to pass the CPC Module 2 test.

What is the validity period of the pass letter received after passing the CPC Module 2 test?

The CPC Module 2 pass letter is valid for 2 years.

NOTE- Drivers need to complete the CPC part 4 practical demonstration test within 2 years of completing the CPC module 2. Otherwise, they’ll be required to take the module 2 case studies test again.

What happens if you fail the CPC Module 2 test, and how soon can you book another case studies test?

If you fail the test, you’ll receive a result letter with feedback explaining the reasons for your failure. You can book another case studies test immediately, however you have to wait for another 3 clear working days to take the test again.

For driving large goods vehicle (LGV) or Heavy goods vehicles (HGV) Lorries weighing over 3.5 tonnes, in the UK professionally, it’s a mandatory rule for all drivers to get their driver certificate of professional competence (CPC).

The Rule is set by the European Union Directive for improving the professional standards of drivers who wish to commercially drive LGV HGV vehicles with proper road safety.

What is Initial CPC and Periodic CPC for HGV LGV Drivers?

There are two types of driver CPC, Initial and periodic. If you are a new HGV driver then you must first complete initial Driver CPC (consists of total 4 parts.) to become a professional Lorry driver. The Initial Driver CPC qualification lasts for 5 Years.

If you are already a professional HGV driver or have passed and obtained your driving licence (C, C1, C+E and C1+E) before 10 September 2009 then you must undergo 35 hours of periodic training on Driver CPC in every 5 years to maintain it.

What does initial driver CPC covers?

The initial driver CPC consists of 4 parts. Module 1- Theory Test, Module 2- CPC Case Study, Module 3- Practical Driving Test, and Module 4- Practical Demonstration Test.

The initial qualification for the driver CPC involves four hours of theory testing and also 2 hours of practical testing. There is also some extra theory testing for 2.5 hours and 30 minutes of practical testing. All these tests are equivalent to NVQ level 2. The Driver CPC syllabus consists of the theory and the practical tests of which the theory test is classified into three sub categories by the names, module 1a, module 1b, and module 2.

The module 2 of driver CPC involves the driver CPC case studies. Along with the driving license, you must also avail the Driver Certificate for Professional Competence initial qualification if you want to drive commercially and professionally. Once you get the certification qualification, you will also get a driver qualification card that you must keep with you at all those times when you are driving on road.
