Dhoot Driving School (Training)

Expert HGV / LGV Training for Your Driving Career at Dhoot Driving School Central London

Starting a career as an LGV or HGV driver brings a range of opportunities in the transport and logistics industry. At DHOOT Driving School Central London, we’re committed to providing thorough and top-notch HGV driver training that not only prepares you for the road but also opens doors to lucrative career opportunities. All our instructors are certified by the Driver and Vehicles Standard Agency (DVSA). They have extensive knowledge and years of practical experience, making sure you get excellent training that follows the newest industry standards. We have training schedules that can be adjusted to your preferences. Whether you want full-time or part-time training, we have options that work for your lifestyle and commitments. Our prices are fair, so you can get your HGV / LGV licence training at a more affordable price.
Our skilled trainers and instructors are available to guide you at each stage. Our customized training packages include the medical test, theory test, CPC and practical test and training. Come to our school to test our vehicles, meet our instructors, and learn about the cost of obtaining your HGV / LGV licence. We suggest taking a driving assessment where one of our instructors will evaluate your driving skills and relevant experience. They’ll then recommend the best training program for you to pass. The assessment takes about an hour, and after that, we can provide a price quote for suitable training programs based on your performance.
To learn to drive big trucks/lorries (HGV / LGV), you need to meet certain criteria. These rules make sure you’re ready and qualified to drive large trucks on the roads.

Obtaining Your Professional HGV / LGV Licence

• Minimum Age– You must be at least 18 years old to start HGV / LGV training.
• Licence Requirements- You must have a car driving licence in UK before starting your HGV/LGV training.
• Medical Examination- You are required to pass a medical examination conducted by a registered medical practitioner. This is to ensure that you are physically fit for the demands of professional driving.
• Provisional HGV/LGV Licence- Before you learn to drive big trucks on the road, you usually need to get a provisional HGV / LGV licence. This allows you to receive practical training on the road. You can apply for a provisional HGV licence from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA).
• Theory Test- It’s important to pass the HGV / LGV theory test which includes multiple-choice questions and hazard perception tests. This test checks what you know about road safety, traffic rules, and things about the truck.
• Practical Training- After completing your theory training and receiving the DVSA test results, it’s time to step into a real HGV vehicle for practical training. This phase involves learning from a DVSA-certified and experienced instructor, increasing your chances of passing the practical test successfully. When you feel prepared for the practical test, you can schedule it, and with effective training, you may pass on your first attempt.
• Initial Driver CPC (certificate of professional competence)- For all new drivers for Category C and C+E, it is required to complete the initial Driver CPC to obtain a full HGV licence. The initial Driver CPC is a mandatory step, and without completing this, you can’t operate an HGV professionally. The initial Driver CPC covers theory tests, including multiple-choice questions and hazard perception tests, as well as practical tests, a practical demonstration test called CPC Module 4, and a case studies test known as CPC Module 2.
• CPC Periodic training- Once you finish the initial Driver CPC, it’s important to complete 35 hours of periodic training to stay updated and keep your skills current. Periodic training is mandatory every five years and must be undertaken at approved training centres. This ongoing training ensures that professional drivers stay informed about industry changes and maintain a high level of competence.
Once you’ve successfully completed the tests and training, you can upgrade your provisional licence to a full HGV licence.
