Certificate of Professional Competence is an essential qualification required by law and it is an essential criterion for a person wishing to operate vehicles. If a person obtains this qualification, it demonstrates his professional competence of being the owner operator or transport manager. Now he will be responsible for the control of goods vehicles or anybody involved in the Cross rail/FORS or of anyone applying for an Operator’s Licence.

In order to obtain the CPC qualification, candidates must appear for formal examinations which are held quarterly a year (March, June, September and December) and successfully complete a case study (a kind of project work) as part of the examination process. All these examinations are administered by OCR on behalf of the Department for Transport.

3) Licence for Restricted Operators— This licence is meant for own account operators to allow an operator to carry goods in the course of his own trade or business in the UK or abroad for which no CPC holder is required but the operators background knowledge is essential to meet O’ Licence requirements.
